Perks of Me Tearing my ACL in High School

I wrote a blog post last year about some of the pros and cons following my meniscus surgery. I also wanted to share some perks that came along with tearing my ACL during high school.

(1) Tearing my ACL in high school gave me the benefits of missing two weeks of class my senior year and having teachers feel bad for me so that they were generous about extensions and the amount of work I had to make up. Of course I still made sure to catch up on everything, but it was nice to get a little more time for some of the assignments.

(2 At my Catholic high school, girls could only wear jeans or maxi skirts with the required polos. But when I tore my ACL, my brace couldn't fit over the jeans so I got cleared to wear leggings (yay!).

(3) The other major plus was handicap parking! The way parking worked at my high school was that there were about 100 spots in the parking lots next to the buildings and they were sold to high school seniors who were picked in a lottery. I did not win the lottery so I had to park in the 'lower lot" which required walking up a hill to my classes everyday. But once I tore my ACL, I wasn't able to make the walk anymore so the school let me park in the handicap spot on campus. It was right next to the library which was also a major plus since I would do homework there before school everyday.
